| 20/4/2010 Hi Roseline
I know it has taken a long time, but a thought came to me the other night, just before sleep time, about our painting "Ring o' Brodgar". And my thought was this, the amazing connection with me and my mum and the symbolism in the painting.
My mum (Elsie) passed away on the 22nd of May, and in the pic is 22 stones and 5 stars, ie May 5th month. The rose, I planned over a year ago to get a rose bush dedicated to her when I/we can afford it. and the angel in the sky well within the hour mum's passing I saw an angel/her face in the clouds. WOW!
I do not know why it has taken this long to make that connection, but it may be about acceptance ?

19/4/2010 Dear Roseline
These world disasters I do not see as anything but signs we humans have become out of touch with nature. Humans build things where there are faults and in volcanic regions that are active. When humans deforest then mud slides happen. There have been scientists who have warned global warming might cause an increase in volcanic eruptions as well. In 1820 Iceland for two long years this same volcano erupted as you know. When the ice age came over the world I doubt it was a sign to humans from God. It was just part of the cycle of the Earth that was abrupt and life changing. We have become so confident of ourselves that we understand every thing and can handle anything nature throws at us but this is not true and will never be true. The fact is we were never in control and we are at the mercy of what ever happens in the weather and food supply . I do not feel God is giving us a sign except to say wake up, you are not the one running this show. Humans want to believe they are progressing and that they are in control of the world. There is much evidence man has advance in technology many times and that something has happened to throw them back into a primitive state. This is only hard to understand and except because we have been blessed by being born in a quiet time of relative stability. Have we appreciated it, no we have taken it for granted I am afraid. Humans are tough. We will survive but our fancy life styles may not. I trust in God and know that we are indeed like children and need to be waken up from our day dreams from time to time. Do not be dismayed adversity makes one stronger and gives us direction and purpose. Trust in God and make your life matter is what I say!

Dear Sirs,
I found your web site which I find quite fascinating. I am a sculptor stone carver with over twenty seven years of work thus far. I have just completed the carving of a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Tintern Abbey, Wales. This can be seen on the project web site which I think you will find very interesting.
This project was quite a hard one to do as it meant having to get into the mind of the original sculptor (French Cistercian Lay Brother) who worked on the original statue in 1280 at Tintern. I had to follow him and make the new one for the Abbey Church.
This project came about because I had previously carved a large statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary for the Priory Church of St Florent (St Mary's) at Monmouth, Wales.
I notice that the two statues of Mary are in alignment with your Rose Line. Both statues are consecrated stones.
I have recently been approached to carve a third statue of the Blesed Virgin Mary for another church in Herefordshire. This I cannot do until next year through other work, but I am amazed to find that this site is also in line with the Monmouth and Tintern statues. I don't know that much about this sort of thing as I have always gone about my work intuitively. The work is timeless and I work in the medieval way. By hand and on site. The work takes its own time.
I thought you might be interested.
yours sincerely,
Philip Chatfield,
Sculptor.
