A man stands with a measureing rod, bible insight leads us to near the End of the road found at Revelations 21:15...............The one who spoke with me(messenger) had a gold measuring rod to measure the city, its gates and its wall.

But wait a minute, there is something not quite right about the facial features,  of John,  we are invited to speculate, the view in the mirror has left us baffled, I just do not get it! It does not make sense, could it really be John was a woman or may be a woman in a window dressed as a man?

In seasonal pantomim tradition Buttons is the name of  love character interest  in the classic  Cinderella tale,  she arrives for her long awaited date in the Golden carriage of time, which is driven bye the four horses of the Apocalypse, as described in Revelation chapter 6. Cinders is caught in a desperate pardox of Love emotions versus Time erasel,  haveing waited so long, in her prison like captivity existence,  all  her wishes seemingly come to fruition but a  very costly price over hangs the perfect romance, how is it  life  could be so cruel ? The campanile bell-tower resonates our soul towards the fold, the final countdown with the reminder of the last 12 tolls (Rev 21:14) ring-ing in our ears never ever goes away, the majic time fairy God Mother  predestined words  torment our memory.

 The predominate colour in the painting is Black, which hints that we have been kept in the dark, with a number of things going on around us that We are not aware off,  like a passive thief in the night going about his business  stealthily, we think the day of despair will never happen to us, as we wake up from a sweet sleep,  morning breaks through the curtains , we walk downstairs a sense of horror enters our concious, some thing plays with our sixth sense, a unfirmilar faint smell races our pulse,  as we get fully awake we try to come to terms, of how we remember the living roam,  a chill runs up our spines as we open the door, only to confirm our worst fears, we have been robbed of our most precious valuables. They turn out to be insured, but reality hits home, how could We be so complacent in our awareness.  

 The audience are now involved as the third party witnesses to this intense heart ache  Love story, in a clever plot the strongest emotion known to us, the story takes a another twist, as the golden carriage turns into a round orange -gold-Au pumpkin full of seed a metaphor for the cyclic comeing of age of Jesus and his seed kin whom are associated with the"city of pure gold", keep in mind a dried out half pumpkin skin was the cup type, that John the Baptist used to pour water over the head of Jesus, as told by visionary Maria Valtorta, (see below) during the Baptism.  The golden slipper is  the telltale sign left bye the princess in waiting, the slipper is the symbol that covers the soul, the golden slipper will fit the Golden Lady at the alter of marriage, John points to the cross on the measuring rod, this time round in a new body guise but perfect fitting soul-slipper.

Like John, Buttons in many adaptations of  the Cinderella Xmas  pantomine favourite,  the lead character,  is often played bye a Lady in guise the full circle of gender reversal is completed when the wicked two overbearing ugly sisters are usually played bye males,  the weird deep exaggerated voice, that lacks sincerity  overdressed frocks and excessive use of make up, makes them suspicious deceited figures that the young children latch on to, there inner knowing tells them something of their false facade presence is just not right, the dictatorial tyrant figures are type cast to make a mockery of our historical church system and there own beliefs, the gallery arouses to there silly absurd acts of desperation as they come to terms with the climax of the tale, there instinct is proven right no matter how hard the Ugly Sisters or other lady's with in the world's Kingdom this special slipper has only one Owner, " Near the End false Prophets will come, and claim the Right" the game is allmost up, in a fit of selfish fury at being refused at the altar the sisters last act of defiance is to remove there Wigs in a rebellious act that confirms all our worst fears,  the Sisters stomp in rage makeing for the door exit.  Light steps out of the darkness,  and the Truth brings the Love story pseudonym that  conquers All.

A secoundary meaning of button is knob, which itself has sexual connotations with measuremeant and Judgemeant time, which may go a long distance to explain why a half naked John is standing pointing at the cross-over, this is the spot where descrimination of sex type is nullified.

In Da Vinci's  competitive renaissance industry, subtle delicate symbols can influence the informal onlooker to study the intent message and take advantage of innocent signs, this would help to keep the enlighted painters of there time, from being trialed and tortured for heresy.
